FLAMES RAMP UP OFFENSE IN 6-2 WIN OVER SAN ANTONIO

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Flames took down the San Antonio Rampage 6-2 on Tuesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Six different players netted a goal in the game and eight players recorded assists. The Flames continued their recent trend of high shots totals, with 48 for the night, marking three straight games with 40 or more shots. Joni Ortio recorded the victory with 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Flames opened the scoring halfway through the first period when Sena Acolatse skated into the crease and scored a backhanded goal to give the Flames a 1-0 lead. Acolatse pushed the puck between San Antonio goalie Dan Ellis’s legs off of a pass from Mathieu Tousignant, who was behind the net. With the goal, Acolatse has collected points in two consecutive games, and the goal was his second of the season and first since Oct. 17 against Lehigh Valley.

Five minutes into the second period the Rampage knotted the score 1-1 when Rocco Grimaldi got one past goalie Joni Ortio from the blue line. Jesse Blacker recorded an assist.

Adirondack regained the lead less than two minutes later, as Tyler Wotherspoon wielded the puck past Ellis’ blocker side for the Flames second goal of the night. The goal was set up when Turner Elson rebounded a shot from Bryce Van Brabant as both recorded assists.

After regaining the lead, the Flames never looked back. With less than four minutes left in the middle period, Corban Knight put one top shelf over the goalie to give the Flames a two-goal lead. Ben Hanowski was credited with the lone assist on the play.

Moments later, with just 49 seconds left in the middle stana, Garnet Hathaway collected the Adirondack’s fourth goal after he put home a shot from Kenny Agostino. Agostino and Tousignant recorded assists on the play, the second point of the evening for Tousignant.

The Flames picked up where they left to start the third period. Just 41 seconds in, Hanowski pushed one past Ellis in a scrum in front of the goal to push the lead to 5-1. Knight recorded his second point of the night on the assist.

The scoring barrage continued when David Wolf handled a quick pass from Emile Poirier and got it past the San Antonio netminder. Poirier and Culkin were credited with the assists.

The Rampage added the game’s final goal, their second, halfway through the third period when Andrew Yogan slipped one past Ortio for the San Antonio’s second and final goal of the game. Stephan Vigier recorded an assist on the play.

Ortio finished the night with 36 saves on 38 shots, improving his save percentage to .916 on the season. Despite the game being well in hand, the Flames continued to impress defensively. During the final half of the period the, Flames held San Antonio during an extended 5-on-3 advantage. Adirondack finished the night 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and the Flames have now successful killed 52 of their past 53 times shorthanded.
