Albany, NY – The Adirondack Flames earned their second shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Albany Devils in a Sunday matinee at the Times Union Center.
Max Reinhart had the lone goal for Adirondack, which earned four points from their three-in-three game set this weekend. Joni Ortio was solid between the pipes with 28 saves for his eleventh win of the season, tied for the league lead. The shutout was the second of Ortio’s season and the fourth of his AHL career.
The Flames opened the scoring for the second straight night as Reinhart beat Albany netminder Keith Kinkaid short side to make it 1-0 late in the first period. Reinhart’s shot came from a tight angle at the bottom of the right circle. Turner Elson had the lone assist on the play after he generated a nice turnover deep in the Albany zone.
Neither side was able to crack through in the second period, as the score remained 1-0. Despite a four-minute Albany power play toward the end of the middle stanza, the Devils could not crack Joni Ortio, who made seven saves. Kinkaid made nine stops for Albany, the best of which on a shorthanded breakaway attempt from Reinhart with less than five minutes to play in the period.
The third period featured more of the same as the second, with neither side being able to find the back of the net. The Flames had the period’s best opportunity as a nice passing play found Brodie Reid in front alone but Kinkaid was equal with a nice stop. Despite Albany’s pressure in the final two minutes, the Flames were able to hold on and grind out the two standings points.
