Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Flames collected 677 teddy bears from their Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday night’s game against the Utica Comets.
The Glens Falls Civic Center ice was pelted with stuffed animals after David Wolf scored Adirondack’s first goal with just four seconds left in the second period. All bears collected were donated on behalf of the Flames organization to support the local Salvation Army. Over 500 local children were aided through the Flames’ teddy bear toss.
“The teddy bear toss gives our fans the opportunity to support kids who otherwise wouldn’t be getting teddy bears or gifts of this kind this holiday season,” Adirondack Flames President Brian Petrovek said. “The opportunity for us to do it right before Christmas is special, all the teddy bears from tonight will go to the Salvation Army, who will quickly move them into the community and get them to kids who otherwise may not be getting anything for Christmas. We thank our fans, once again, for their generosity and kindness.”
The Salvation Army provides donations and financial assistance, Christmas dinners, clothing and toys for families in need, during the holiday season. Volunteers distribute gifts to shut-ins in hospitals and nursing homes, and shelters are open for sit-down dinners. Many families receive aid over a period of months after the Christmas season, as well as people struggling with difficult family, emotional, or employment problems.
"Thanks to the generosity of a caring and sharing community, the Greater Glens Falls Salvation Army was able to serve almost 500 area children with 15 gifts each,” Major David A. Dean, Corps Commanding Officer of the Greater Glens Falls Salvation Army said. A number of those gifts were stuffed animals, as each child received a choice of a small, medium and large animal. A big thanks to the Adirondack Flames for their Teddy Bear Toss which raised 677 stuffed animals on Saturday.”
The Adirondack Flames return home on Wednesday, December 31, for a New Year’s Eve contest against the Toronto Marlies, presented by Nemer Ford. Puck drop is at 5:30 p.m. and an indoor fireworks show will follow at the conclusion of the game. Tickets are still available for that contest and all remaining Flames’ home games.
