FLAMES ANSWER THE CALL OF THE WILD WITH 2-1 WIN

Des Moines, IA – The Adirondack Flames won their fourth straight game on Sunday afternoon, a 2-1 decision over the Iowa Wild at the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Flames got an early goal from Bill Arnold and a late goal from Emile Poirier to overcome the Wild and make it a perfect two-of-two on their current road trip. Goaltender Brad Thiessen made 26 saves on 27 shots as he earned his fourth victory of the season. With the victory, Adirondack remained undefeated when leading after two periods of play, with nine wins from as many games with the lead after 40 minutes.

Adirondack opened the scoring just 3:30 into the game as Arnold netted his sixth goal of the season. The Boston College graduate took a feed in the slot from winger Emile Poirier and put a laser of a shot past Iowa goaltender Johan Gustafsson to make it 1-0 for the visitors. Defenseman John Ramage had the secondary assist on the play.

The second period came to a close scoreless as neither side could find the back of the net. The Iowa net was under siege as Adirondack put 16 shots on Gustafsson but the Swede stood tall, turning aside each shot he faced. Thiessen was a perfect seven-of-seven in net for Adirondack.

The Wild evened the score just 32 seconds into the third period as captain Stephane Vellieux put a loose puck past Thiessen to make it 1-1. Defenseman Matt Dumba and center Brett Sutter had the assists for the home side, the fifth point in six games for Dumba.

The Flames needed a bit of late game heroics for the winner, as Poirier collected his second point of the evening with a pinpoint shot from the right hand circle. The winger used a give-and-go with defenseman Sena Acolatse to get open and ripped a snapshot past Gustafsson for the 2-1 lead.

The Flames continue on their four-game road trip on Wednesday in a rare noon puck drop against the Chicago Wolves. Adirondack returns home on Dec. 20 for a matchup against the Utica Comets on Teddy Bear Toss Night. Tickets are still available for that contest and all remaining Flames’ home games.
