Calgary, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced this weekend that they have signed goaltender Joni Ortio to a two year contract and defenseman Mark Cundari to a one-year contract.Ortio, a native of Turku, Finland, played 10 games with the Flames during the 2013-14 season. He played in his first NHL game on February 27th stopping 20 of 22 shots and earned his first NHL win on March 5th stopping 30 of 31 shots in a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators. He posted a 4-5-0 record with a 2.84 GAA.Originally drafted by the Flames in the 6th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Ortio posted a 27-8-0 record in another 37 games with the Flames AHL affiliate. He finished near the top of final AHL rankings in save percentage (.926 – 2nd), wins (27 - 4th) and GAA (2.33 – 6th).
Cundari, a native of Woodbridge, ON, played four games with the Flames in 2013-14. He played an additional 56 games with the Abbotsford Heat and Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League scoring 9 goals and 14 assists for 23 points along with 73 penalty minutes. The former two-time Memorial Cup champion with the Windsor Spitfires was originally acquired by the Flames, along with Reto Berra and a 1st round pick, on April 1, 2013 from St. Louis in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester.
