GLENS FALLS, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today that goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos has signed a professional try-out contract with the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Devils.
Sakellaropoulos, 24, has appeared in 16 games for the Thunder so far this season while posting an 8-3-3 record with a 2.66 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. The Tinley Park, Illinois product has started in a career-high nine consecutive games for the Thunder and picked up his first professional shutout with a 32-save blanking of the Brampton Beast in Saturday night’s 1-0 Adirondack win.
Fresh off winning the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week award, Sakellaropoulos will head to the American Hockey League for the first time in his young career. Prior to playing professionally, the 24-year-old goalie played four seasons at Union College in Schenectady, NY. With the Dutchmen, Sakellaropoulos appeared in 82 career games where he went 40-22-13 with three career shutouts, a 2.54 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
The Thunder hit the ice for a trio of games this weekend. The Manchester Monarchs pay a visit to Glens Falls for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday evenings. Adirondack will then host the Newfoundland Growlers on Monday evening at 5:00 p.m. for the annual New Year’s Eve game.
