12/13/2017 2:30 PM -

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, announced today they have signed defenseman Travis Armstrong to a standard player contract. In addition, the Thunder have acquired defenseman Blake Thompson from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations.

Armstrong, 27, joins the Thunder from the SPHL’s Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs, where he leads all defensemen with five goals during the 2017-18 season. Adirondack is Armstrong’s seventh ECHL stop, joining Kalamazoo, Brampton, Norfolk, Manchester, Idaho and Indy. The 6-5 defenseman has appeared in 40 career ECHL games and has amassed five points (1-4-5), in addition to 44 penalty minutes.  Armstrong has also collected 24 points (8-16-24) from 87 career games in the SPHL and is current in the midst of his third full season as a professional.

Thompson, 25, was acquired in a trade from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations. Thompson appeared in 11 games with the Cyclones this season as he collected an assist in addition to a +5 rating. The 6-1 blueliner made his professional debut a season ago with the Orlando Solar Bears in early April and began the 2017-18 season with the SPHL’s Evansville Thunderbolts, where he collected six points (1-5-6) from eight games played.

The Thunder are back in action this evening as they host the Worcester Railers for the first of three matchups between the two teams this week. Tickets are available for all December home game by calling 518-480-3355 x1.
