CIVIC CENTER PLAZA IS CEREMONIALLY RE-NAMED “BILL DINEEN WAY”

08/16/2017 7:38 AM -
Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, and Cool Insuring Arena announced today that the City of Glens Falls has ceremonially re-named Civic Center Plaza as Bill Dineen Way.

The ceremony today honored the late Dineen with a street sign in front of Cool Insuring Arena for his contributions to the building and the Adirondack region. Dineen coached the Adirondack Red Wings for six seasons from 1983 – 1989 and won two Calder Cup Championships, in 1986 and 1989. Dineen, who also played and coached in the NHL, was inducted into the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame in its inaugural class in 2010. Dineen passed away on December 10, 2016 at the age of 84.

Attending the ceremony were three of Bill’s sons, Gord, Kevin and Pete, along with their families. Also in attendance were several Adirondack Red Wings players who played under Bill Dineen, as well as several staff members from the team that worked with him.

The Thunder will further honor Dineen on December 9 for “Bill Dineen Night” as they take on the Norfolk Admirals. The Thunder will wear special, Bill Dineen themed jerseys, to be auctioned off online following the game. The team will also raise a Bill Dineen banner to the rafters, forever cementing the legendary coach’s legacy at the top of Cool Insuring Arena. The first 2,500 fans at the game will receive a Bill Dineen banner magnet at the door.

The Thunder will hit the ice again on October 14 as they kick off the 2017-18 ECHL season, their third as a member of the league. Season tickets are on sale now at $13 per ticket. Call 518-480-3355 x1 or visit ECHLThunder.com for more information.
